Umbretta

Privacy Policy

Effective: 23 October 2026 · Version 2026-10-23

Umbretta collects only the information needed to connect people who need a service with people who offer one, and to keep the platform safe and working. This policy explains what we collect, why, who can see it, and the choices you have.

1. Information we collect

Account information: your email address, a securely hashed password, display name, and, if you choose to add them, a bio, city, and profile location. Listing content: titles, descriptions, prices, category, and location for any request or offering you post. Messages: the content of messages you send through the platform's threads. Engagement and review records: proposals, accepted engagements, ratings, and review text tied to completed work. Technical data: your IP address is used transiently to enforce abuse-prevention rate limits and is not stored as part of your profile. If you enable browser push notifications, we store the subscription details needed to deliver them.

2. How we use it

We use this information to operate the two-sided matching function at the core of Umbretta: showing your listings to the right people, connecting you with proposals and messages, tracking engagements from proposal to completion, and publishing double-blind reviews once both sides have submitted or the review window has passed. We also use it to verify accounts, respond to reports, enforce our Terms of Service, prevent abuse, and improve the platform.

3. Who we share it with

Your display name, bio, city, and review history are visible to anyone viewing your public profile. When you propose on a listing or accept a proposal, the other party can see your listing content and the messages you exchange with them. We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We may disclose information when required by law, to protect the rights and safety of users or the public, or to infrastructure and service providers who process data on our behalf and under our instructions to operate the platform.

4. How long we keep it

We keep account and content data for as long as your account is active. In-app notifications are automatically purged after 30 days regardless of whether you've read them. If you delete your account, we anonymize your account record (scrubbing your email, name, bio, location, and password) but keep the historical engagement, review, and message records that involve you, because other users' reputation history depends on that record staying intact (see "Your rights and choices" below).

5. Cookies and local storage

Umbretta uses Google Analytics to understand how people use the site, such as which pages are visited and roughly where from, and it sets a first-party analytics cookie for that purpose. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not share this data with Google for advertising purposes. Your browser's local storage separately holds your session token so you stay signed in between visits; clearing it or signing out removes it. Your IP address is also used transiently to enforce rate limits and is not otherwise stored.

6. Your rights and choices

You can view your account information from your profile and settings page, and correct your display name, bio, city, and language preference at any time from Account settings. You can view and change your notification preferences from the same page. You can delete your account from Account settings: this anonymizes your personal information immediately and makes your account permanently unusable, but (as explained under "How long we keep it") engagement, review, and message records that other users depend on are preserved rather than deleted. For any request about your personal data that isn't covered by these settings, contact us at [email protected].

7. Data security

Passwords are stored as salted cryptographic hashes, never in plain text. We use access controls and standard technical safeguards to protect your information. No online service can guarantee perfect security, and we encourage you to use a strong, unique password.

8. Changes and contact

This Privacy Policy is issued by Umbretta ("Umbretta," "we," "us") and is interpreted under the data-protection law of Egypt, Law No. 151 of 2020 on the Protection of Personal Data. We may update this Privacy Policy by publishing a new version and changing the effective date above. If a change is material, we will provide notice where required. Questions about this policy, or requests about your personal data, can be sent to our privacy contact at [email protected].
